There’s no ‘Secret’ to Success!
“No. I haven’t read any books since I left school 20 years ago.”
John was answering my question about what business books he had read in the past year. He’d operated his hire business for almost 10 years. The last eight years had all been the same. No measurable growth in his meager profits.
No reduction in the hours he worked. He had become a slave to his business. Although he had six employees, they weren’t working for him. He was working for them! He hadn’t learned to systemize the processes in his business. Therefore he couldn’t delegate any of the key responsibilities and was doing way too much himself.
He couldn’t trust them. This was taking a heavy toll on his wife and family because of the excessive hours he worked.
There is a key principle John had failed to grasp that would set him on the road to freedom. It would enable the achievement of his original purpose for going into business.
He confessed he had almost forgotten and given up on his original goals of having a better income and more time for his family. His goal had been to spend time with his sons tinkering around with bikes and cars. His wife wanted to travel overseas too. But he couldn’t leave the business for more than a long weekend.
What is this key principle? Simply that to grow a successful business you have to grow yourself!
