Footprint Books


............... When we came to coaching in 2006, we had passed that $4m mark and I guess we were starting to feel a little unchallenged and like we had done it.   Well nothing could have been further from the truth.  We had a good profitable business with a team of 12 great people but the business would not be able to run without us. Through coaching, we realised that we had set the business up so that it was totally dependent on the two of us.  We were still working way too much as technicians and not enough as managers and owners.

With Craig Brewster's assistance, we learned to observe the many ways daily that we encouraged our teams dependence on us and how our recruitment process helped to re-enforce this.  We found ourselves with a whole team of high CS personalities.  While this was great for start up, we recognised that we now needed a different mix.

We learnt strategies that started to get our existing team to be more independent and used the DISC system to recruit new members who would help us drive our business.  This meant a fall out of some of our original team which was sad for me but has resulted in new recruits with even greater potential.

Nearly 12 months down the track, our sales have increased more than 31%, we have acquired a new company, our net profit is sitting at a healthy 12.6% and we are well into writing up our procedures, formalising our induction process and benchmarking our performance.  We have an organisational chart and a good idea of where we want to go and how we are going to get there.

We still have a lot to do but having a Coach has allowed us to make some major shifts in our thinking, get better at managing our time and be more clear about our personal goals and how we are going to reach them.

A very rewarding process.
