Successful local business owner, Jimmy Burwood, of Burnhouse Engineering & Fabrication Ltd. walked away with two top awards at the prestigious ActionCOACH Business Awards Dinner 2010.

 

The Awards Dinner, which was held at The Barcelo Hinckley Island Hotel, is an annual event held by ActionCOACH, the world’s number one business coaching company. This year’s independent judging panel was made up of senior representatives from NatWest Bank, Mazars Accountants and Fishers Law.

 

Burnhouse Engineering received the Scotland Business of the Year Award for the hard work Jimmy and his team has put into making his business a success. In addition, Jimmy also received the Abundance Award which recognises an individual who reflects the ActionCOACH 14 points of culture and goes out of their way to help and assist other business owners in the community.

 

The company is based in Burnhouse, Ayrshire and undertake all types of structural steelwork for commercial, industrial and residential projects. They provide innovative architectural design and consultancy services, full project management, fabrication, installation and after sales contracts. Their staircase work was featured in Chanel 4’s ‘Grand Designs’ program and with an enviable reputation for excellence live up to their title

 

When he is not running his company, Jimmy is a committed family man, adventurer and an active member of his local community and also devotes time to global causes that benefit others.

 

Jimmy is the youth opportunities chairman for 61 Rotary Clubs throughout Scotland and helps to improve the business education of children through leveraging business communities. As a member of CeeD, a voluntary organisation solely committed to the pursuit of operational excellence, Jimmy works in a team to share best practices and support others. Additionally, Jimmy canvasses local business owners and leaders to support the Aqua Box project, which is an inexpensive (under 1p per litre ) easily transported and simple to operate method of restoring safe drinking water thus helping to minimise the outbreak of disease in disaster areas, such as recently Haiti and locally in the UK in flood areas.

 

“I am thrilled to accept these awards,” said Jimmy, “By working with my Business Coach, Derek Mair, to systemise my business it has also allowed me to apply many principles to my voluntary work, not least as a leader in the Scout movement.

 

 

Derek has been working with Jimmy since November 2009 and has seen a dramatic change in the way that Burnhouse Engineering run their business. “In the past five months they have gone from strength to strength. Jimmy has turned a loss making business into one that has a great future with a productive and growing team that enjoys working there.” he said.

 

Jimmy concluded, “By making my business more efficient, I am able to devote more time and energy to helping my local community and to my family. Although it is challenging juggling many roles, I wouldn’t want it any other way as it is so rewarding.”
