Derek Mair is a person of many talents, strengths and integrity. During our working relationship he has exhibited the ability to not only pull from his extensive background and adapt it to the situation at hand but also the ability to easily address new challenges that may arise. He extends this ability to maintain positive relationships even if the topic at hand is a difficult one to address by being direct but fair. I had been in business over 12 years when I met my Action Coach. In all my years of searching for the blueprint to business success, I was continously frustrated. I spoke to many professionals in the business and finance worlds, including some quite costly CPAs, MBAs, bankers, and business coaches. All of them were very proficient at expounding upon things I needed to do to improve the business side of my practice. However, not one of them was willig or capable of showing me exactly how to get from where I was to where I knew I needed to be. My Action Coach was able to spend the time and energy to "massage" me through my fears, and mapped out the way for me to become a truly effective business manager. Since working with Action, we have already exceeded the financial goals we established. This happened in a period of 3 months, instead of the 6 months we had projected. All this was accomplished with me working less revenue-generating hours, and using that time to work on the business itself. The most impressive part is, that now that I know what to do, the part of my work that I used to dread has become enjoyable, and astoundingly more rewarding, both financially and personally. I am so thankful that I took the time and committed the resources to transform my business into the dynamic and increasingly more efficient service delivery facility I have always dreamed it could become. When we decided to start the Accelerate Club, we committed to a 70% increase in revenue within 3 months. This, we all agreed, was a tall order and one that we would have to work very hard to achieve. However, with your help and coaching, and putting into place most of what we had learned we are delighted to let you know that within less than 3 months, we have increased our revenue by over 100% - and we have only just "scratched the surface" with our marketing plan. We chose, with your help, not to participate in the "recession", however, it is a tough marketplace at the moment and we are confident that the changes that we have made and will continue to make, will place us in a strong position to capitalise when the economy recovers. When we started coaching we were extremely sceptical of the process and the expected return but we trusted Derek and so took what we perceived to be at the time a risk. Both my business partner and myself were all but burned out trying to make ends meet in a building trade that was already depleted. The coaching goal was to sell our business ASAP but Derek persuaded us to put an exit plan in place and set some tough selling price goals that we were not sure were achievable in the current economy, and especially as it was twice as much as what we thought was a good offer already on the table. Turns out with just two or three simple strategies that we would never had thought of never mind had the knowledge to implement we sold our business 5 months later for almost triple the original offer. If anyone is sceptical of the coaching process, don’t be, embrace it and trust in Derek as we did. We thought setting goals and planning was a complete waste of time, turns out, once you learn how to do it properly it is one of the greatest advantages any business can have. It’s not just about the goal setting, it’s the discipline involved and learning to establish a system that also makes a lifelong difference. We are now embarking on property development business, yet another area Derek has helped and continues to coach us in.
