Innovative, Mallow Start-up Company with a new, life-saving Total Medication Management system wins prestigious ActionCoach Business Innovation Award

The ActionCoach Business awards ceremony was held in Dublin on Thursday the 10^th of November with businesses entering from all over Ireland.

Professor Peter Weedle, MD of Pharmacy Prime Ltd., said that he is looking forward to entering Pharmacy Prime Ltd for the ActionCoach European awards competition in January 2012 and in the Global ActionCoach awards competition in August 2012.

After 4 years of research and development, Professor Peter Weedle and his team in Mallow started up Pharmacy Prime in January 2011 to deliver Biodose - a patented system of Total Medicine Management for the elderly and other patients requiring medicine management - to the Irish Market.

Professor Weedle and his team have combined their extensive knowledge of medicine management with modern information technology to produce Biodose.

Medication Management is a major topic in the care of the elderly.  However, many studies have shown that medicine management is often done poorly with harmful and even fatal results. 

A recent report at St. James Hospital in Dublin showed that over a 5 year period 4,200 prescription mistakes for more than 4,000 patients were recorded and 28% of these patients suffered harm from the errors. Other reports in Ireland and elsewhere throughout the world indicate a similar pattern.

The Biodose system

i)                    Systemises medicine use review by all care practitioners.

ii)                   Systemises checks and balances on a patient by patient basis to ensure optimum use of medicines and avoid mistakes

iii)                 Provides an ongoing system of education for frontline staff administering medicines.

iv)                 Provides systematic reviews and advice for the prescribers of the medicine – on a patient by patient basis.

Biodose is the only Medicine Delivery System fully tested and approved by the Central Laboratory in Germany which ensures the high standard of medical products and systems used in Germany.

Over 50 pharmacies in Ireland are using the Biodose system to manage medicines being administered to 3,500 patients in Ireland.  These numbers are set to expand rapidly over the next 2 years.
