EXPERIENCE

Public Accounting
 
Six years of public accounting in Minneapolis with Grant Thornton and Des Moines with McGowen, Hurst, Clark & Smith.  Worked with a diverse client base from electrical contractors to the health insurance companies.  Reached the position of Audit Manager, responsible for staff reviews and development.

Internal Audit

Five years of internal audit experience as the Audit Manager with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa (now Wellmark) and the Iowa Health System.  Focus was on operational process improvement and internal fraud and abuse.  Lead a team of four auditors while at Wellmark, responsible for their development, yearly audit plans, and all supervisory duties.

Chief Financial Officer

Nine years as Chief Financial Officer - The Iowa Clinic, where I was part of the team that merged 86 practicing physicians in 26 existing clinics into a single merged entity.  Responsibilities included all financial areas of the clinic:  insurance contracting, malpractice contracting, all financial transactions and detailed reporting by physician, department, and overall clinical operations, and all banking and financing activities.  I also was the project manager for construction of West Des Moines clinic, provided leadership for the accounting team and a member of the Senior Management team with reporting responsibilities to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

 Began new career in February of 2005 - Wanted to combine the above 20+ years of business experience along with my desire to help others succeed while providing balance for my family.
