As home builders we have had a difficult few years and have had to downsize our company. One of the early things that helped us after starting our weekly coaching sessions with Rick was understanding that we were not just experiencing a lack of time in our day; instead we had a lack of focus. Since we work together as a husband and wife team, our weekly coaching session with Rick really helps us focus on what tasks we need to do to accomplish our goals and provides accountability for us that has made a big impact in our business. When we began coaching, Rick was very quick to understand our business and within our first phone call, he offered principles that work for not only our business but for any business. We came into the process being very coachable and knew we needed some help, especially due to the down market were faced with. Heidi wasn’t necessarily on board right away due to the time commitment, but after our first phone call, she too agreed we need to be coached. Essentially we knew we couldn’t afford coaching from a cash perspective, but we were convinced we couldn’t afford not begin coaching. Now we look forward to each coaching session!
In Heidi’s sales office she has posted many insights, and nuggets that she has received in coaching and it keeps her spirit up. When others come into her office, despite the down market, they see the motivation and enthusiasm in her.
The Blinding Flashes of the Obvious have been helpful too. Whether or not the information we receive in coaching is something we have heard before or not, the lack of implementation has not helped us. Now we are taking action and making those course corrections which is really making a difference.
We have recently done a team alignment with Rick which has helped us get two key personnel in place and motivated. In the alignment we focused on our values, our mission statement, the 5 ways, etc… and we have built on the ownership that each of the team members have.
We are encouraged by Rick because he is always reading learning. He is a student of growing businesses and we are students of him. A good student reflects his teacher, therefore, we too are constantly challenged to grow and improve. Everything about working with Rick has been positive. We really respect for Rick’s ability to make us better and that’s what it’s really all about.

We have been working with Rick for 6 months and we are getting rewarding results! We have had some staggering numbers in increases of sales but our biggest differences have been in the culture of our business. We are also finding out the reasons why we are or not hitting our targeted numbers. To have a 50% increase at our main business location that is busy is huge and those are the results that our company needs and looks for and has been finding since coaching with Rick. We are confident we will continue to get these kinds of results on a regular basis.
We are also starting to see some results at our auxiliary locations by simply spending more time at those locations. We have let go of those locations over the past couple of years and those stores have been doing just okay, but we wanted them to do better. Now, just in spending time with the sales reps at those stores, their attitudes have improved and their overall sales are better.
At Rick’s suggestion, we have implemented regular sales meetings which we had never done before. Those meetings are also getting results. The sales staff is talking about things we’ve never heard them talk about, such as not stereotyping customers, which is simple but very important in sales. They are now talking with each other and discussing why they shouldn’t do it. They are becoming more accountable instead of pointing fingers at each other… playing the blame game. We have sent our sales staff to sales training with Rick and after a couple sessions, things are beginning to click with them. They are not only gaining knowledge be better sales people, but overall better people as a result of things that are happening here. And that’s exciting; that’s over the top!!!

We have been working with Rick since March of 2010. Through our coaching experience with Rick, we are now doing a lot of things in our business that in the past we had never considered. For instance, identifying and defining the job descriptions of our staff. As a result, our team members have a better understanding of their rolls which gives them greater clarity and creates a more efficient workday, eliminating the overlap of tasks that was occurring.

This has also resulted in freeing up my time to be home more with my family in the evenings.
We look forward to coming to see Rick every week and it is nice to know we have someone who is our corner, who understands the details of our business and who has the experience to help us understand things we didn’t even know that we didn’t know. Rick has great ideas and is really fun and friendly to deal with but more importantly, he is an expert at what he does. Rick gives us the steps we need to take to reach our goals and sets out a schedule the helps us achieve them in a reasonable time frame.
Before we began coaching, we were so far out of whack with our systems; we were in great need to streamline our practice so that it would begin to work for us. We had spent 3 years in our business trying to do this ourselves and after that time we in no better spot than when we had first opened. We realized we needed to get help just like someone who wanted to get into shape would hire a trainer or a nutritionist, we knew we needed to hire a business coach. That is how we view Rick, someone that will help us improve our business in areas we weren’t able to do ourselves.
We have definitely benefitted from having Rick as our Coach. It has been a long and effortful process of learning, finding out what to do and implementing those things. And we now are getting the results we desire. In fact, we are on pace this year for our best year yet. At the end of the 3rd Quarter we are near the revenue we generated all of 2009. And as of the first of November, our profits are up 82% from last year!

We did a lot of role playing so that when I am in front of a client, I really know how to sell with confidence. From that initial tradeshow I ended up landing 2 out of 3 basement finishing jobs. One of the things Rick has helped me out with that wasn’t initially on my radar was networking events. Rick has helped me develop flyers for direct mail campaigns and hand delivery. We have together designed a website and Rick helped me to create a language for that website which will be up and running soon and with which I am very pleased. I classify myself as a person who is “successful despite myself”, and while I knew I needed to perform better to meet my financial expectations, I wasn’t following through on what I needed to do. With all of these things combined, the number of my total clients has increased over 110%, within just a few months! In addition, I currently have a very full pipeline of prospective clients for our firm and in short order will have achieved “first level” of financial goals I had set, and will begin working on the next set of goals.
