Coaching has helped me in several areas:
 
1. It has made me look at the number one issue in our company which was leadership. It caused me to self examine my role in the company and to take a hard look at my leadership style.

 The following is an example of how coaching helped to start the process of aligning our company:

Five months ago I went on a five day mission trip to New Orleans with my family, this was not the first time that I’ve left on such a trip and felt everything would operate smoothly in my absence. Within two days I was receiving calls from my vice president detailing problems that really should not have occurred. This was not only aggravating, but caused a sense of resentment toward my employees.

When I came home from New Orleans I conducted damage control and tried to sort out what went wrong.  I was also concerned, because I was leaving for a ten day trip to the Amazon Jungle where communications were almost non existent.

Wayne suggested we hold a Team Alignment day, prior to my departure in two months. At first I was very reluctant…also, I knew there would be resistance from my employees.

Not only did that day prove to be much more than I could have ever imagined, but in as little as a day our entire company had a new direction. We had all obtained a new sense of respect for one another, but most importantly my employees finally started to see the vision for potential greatness that can be achieved if we truly believe in ourselves and in one another.

Following that team day I left two weeks later for my mission trip to the Amazon. I admittedly was a little nervous leaving for two full business weeks….When I returned, not only were the doors still opened, but an acquisition of additional work had occurred.

In my absence the company had operated as a team, respectful and in harmony with one another, instead of individuals just looking out for themselves. My vice president went from stressed out to confident during his role as company leader.

 Coaching has helped me focus on my business and prioritize what needs to be done first. For me, that was increase the number of leads on a very limited marketing budget. Once I determined that, the next step was to find out how we are going to increase the number of leads.
